This year Spirit Alive’s annual outing was another trip to explore the uniqueness of Southwest Florida. The trip to the historic city of the Everglades began at the Rod and Gun club where we gathered for lunch and had an opportunity to read all of the posted newspaper clippings displaying the vast history. The club also houses many interesting artifacts.

We then visited the Museum of the Everglades where we gathered for a presentation of this history before we toured the displays. While there we learned of the struggles and hardships the early inhabitants endured in a very hostile environment.

Our last stop was The Smallwood Store on Chokoloskee Island, deep in the heart of the 10,000 Islands. The store is filled with collected items over the 2,000 years that it was inhabited.
